Sonus faber Sonetto VIII G2 Floorstanding Loudspeaker
3-way floorstander with 1.1” tweeter, 6.5” midrange, dual 8” woofers, and 90 dB sensitivity
The second generation of Sonus faber’s Sonetto Collection brings technologies developed for the flagship Suprema system into a more accessible range of loudspeakers. Made in Italy, Sonetto G2 combines the company’s signature lute-shaped cabinets and natural materials with purpose-designed drivers, including the Camelia midrange used in selected models. The collection also incorporates technologies such as cork internal chambers, phase-coherent crossovers, and concrete bases to improve resonance control and mechanical stability.
Sonetto VIII is the flagship floorstanding model in the Sonetto G2 Collection. Its 3-way design combines a 1.1” DAD silk-dome tweeter, a 6.5” Camelia midrange, and two 8” woofers. The tweeter and midrange operate within a specially shaped cork chamber derived from Sonus faber’s Suprema, while the woofers load into a down-vented enclosure. With greater cabinet volume and larger bass drivers than the other Sonetto G2 floorstanders, Sonetto VIII is designed for greater scale, bass extension, and dynamic capability.
Features
Cork Internal Chamber
The tweeter and midrange are housed within a dedicated cork chamber whose internal volume is tailored to the drivers. Borrowed from the flagship Suprema, the chamber uses cork’s acoustic properties to help control internal reflections and improve midrange clarity.
Camelia Midrange
Originally developed for Suprema, the 6.5” Camelia midrange uses an organically shaped diaphragm inspired by the camellia flower. Five radial cuts help avoid resonances associated with conventional circular diaphragms, while the unpainted membrane is intended to preserve its natural mechanical behavior.
DAD Silk-Dome Tweeter
Sonetto VIII uses Sonus faber’s 1.1” DAD (Damped Apex Dome) Arrow Point silk-dome tweeter. A copper shorting ring helps control the driver’s behavior while the extended-frequency design provides response well beyond the audible range.
Phase-Coherent Crossover
The Sonetto G2 crossover is designed to closely align the phase rotation of the individual drivers. This approach helps the drivers behave more coherently through their crossover regions for a more precisely defined and stable soundstage.
Concrete Base
A concrete base adds mass and structural stability to the cabinet. The dense material is used to help reduce unwanted vibration while providing a solid foundation for the tall floorstanding enclosure.
Lute-Shaped Cabinet
Sonus faber’s familiar lute-shaped cabinet is designed to reduce internal resonances while maintaining the visual language of the company’s larger loudspeakers. Sonetto VIII combines wood veneer and leather detailing with its concrete base for additional mechanical stability.
