The third generation of Sonus faber’s Olympica Collection combines Italian craftsmanship with acoustic technologies derived from the flagship Suprema. Inspired by the architecture of Vicenza’s Teatro Olimpico, the collection uses asymmetrical lute-shaped cabinets, handcrafted wood veneers, and precision-machined aluminum details. Its acoustic developments include the Camelia midrange driver and, on selected models, dedicated cork-damped internal chambers designed to control resonances around the midrange and tweeter.

Olympica V is the flagship floorstander in the collection, combining a 1.1” DAD Arrow Point silk-dome tweeter, a 6.5” Camelia midrange, and three 6.5” woofers. The tweeter and midrange operate within a dedicated sealed chamber incorporating a shaped cork damping structure, while the three woofers use a vented enclosure for greater low-frequency output. Its asymmetrical cabinet is finished in hand-worked walnut or wenge veneer with matte sandblasted aluminum details.

Features

Camelia Midrange

Originally developed for Suprema, the 6.5” Camelia midrange uses a non-circular paper diaphragm inspired by the geometry of the camellia flower. Its shape is designed to reduce unwanted resonances while exposing the full radiating surface toward the listener. A copper cap is incorporated into the driver’s motor system.

Cork-Damped Midrange Chamber

The tweeter and midrange are housed in a dedicated sealed acoustic chamber with an internal cork damping structure developed through computer simulation. Its organic shape and natural damping properties help manage internal resonances while allowing the midrange to operate within a controlled acoustic environment.

DAD Arrow Point Tweeter

High frequencies are handled by Sonus faber’s 1.1” DAD (Damped Apex Dome) Arrow Point extended-frequency silk-dome tweeter. The design controls movement at the dome’s apex to maintain smooth response and dispersion through the upper frequencies.

Triple 6.5” Woofers

Three 6.5” paper-cone woofers give Olympica V substantially greater radiating area than the smaller floorstanders in the collection. Working in a vented enclosure, they extend bass response to 37 Hz while providing the scale and low-frequency authority expected from the flagship Olympica model.

Asymmetrical Lute-Shaped Cabinet

The curved, asymmetrical cabinet is designed to reduce internal resonances and standing waves. Its front baffle and cabinet sides are finished in hand-worked walnut or wenge natural wood, complemented by matte grey sandblasted aluminum elements and polished 45-degree chamfers.
