Sonus faber Guarneri G5 Bookshelf Speaker

2-way standmount speaker with 1.1” DAD tweeter, 5.9” midwoofer, Stealth Ultraflex port, and 86 dB sensitivity

The fifth generation of Sonus faber’s Guarneri loudspeaker continues a tradition that began with the original Guarneri Homage, introduced in 1993. Named in honor of Giuseppe Guarneri, the celebrated Italian violin maker, Guarneri was the first Sonus faber loudspeaker to employ the company's now-signature lute-shaped cabinet. Part of the Homage Collection, Guarneri G5 combines traditional Italian craftsmanship with updated driver technology, crossover engineering, and cabinet construction. Handcrafted in Italy, it preserves the distinctive appearance and acoustic principles of its predecessors while incorporating developments intended to improve clarity, detail, and tonal accuracy.

Guarneri G5 is a 2-way standmount loudspeaker featuring a 1.1” DAD silk-dome tweeter and a newly developed 5.9” midwoofer with a neodymium magnet system. Its vented enclosure uses Sonus faber's Stealth Ultraflex port technology to extend low-frequency performance while controlling turbulence and unwanted resonances. The redesigned crossover incorporates the company's Paracross Topology and Interactive Fusion Filtering technologies to improve driver integration and phase behavior. Guarneri G5 is available in Red, Wengè, and Graphite finishes, with dedicated carbon fiber and aluminum stands sold separately.

Features

Fifth-Generation Guarneri Design

Guarneri G5 builds on more than three decades of development of Sonus faber's compact reference loudspeaker. The original Guarneri established the company's distinctive combination of curved wooden cabinets, leather detailing, and carefully engineered acoustic systems. The fifth generation retains these recognizable elements while introducing a redesigned midwoofer, updated crossover network, and further refinements to the enclosure. The result is a compact loudspeaker intended to provide the tonal balance, spatial presentation, and musical detail associated with the Homage Collection.

Stealth Ultraflex Vented Enclosure

Guarneri G5 uses Sonus faber's proprietary Stealth Ultraflex venting system, which incorporates an extruded aluminum port integrated into the cabinet structure. The design is intended to control airflow and reduce turbulence and unwanted port noise. Its para-aperiodic loading helps regulate low-frequency behavior, contributing to a specified frequency response extending down to 40 Hz. The port also forms part of the cabinet's distinctive asymmetrical design.

DAD Silk-Dome Tweeter

The 1.1” DAD (Damped Apex Dome) Arrow Point tweeter combines a silk diaphragm with a high-power neodymium magnet system. Sonus faber's proprietary damping mechanism controls movement at the apex of the dome, reducing unwanted resonances and extending high-frequency performance. Designed to reproduce fine detail without excessive emphasis, the tweeter contributes to the natural tonal balance characteristic of the Homage Collection.

Redesigned 5.9” Midwoofer

Guarneri G5 introduces a redesigned 5.9” midwoofer with a diaphragm made from cellulose pulp and natural fibers, including kapok and kenaf. The materials are air-dried to preserve their mechanical characteristics, while the driver's revised suspension and neodymium magnet system are designed to reduce resonances and improve linearity. The driver handles both midrange and bass frequencies, combining vocal clarity and instrumental detail with the low-frequency extension expected of a reference standmount loudspeaker.

Advanced Crossover Network

The crossover incorporates Sonus faber's Paracross Topology and Interactive Fusion Filtering (IFF) technologies. These techniques are designed to optimize the electrical interaction between the drivers and improve amplitude and phase response through the crossover region. The circuit uses carefully selected components, including Jantzen inductors, Mundorf resistors, and custom ClarityCap capacitors, assembled on a dedicated circuit board. A crossover frequency of 2.2 kHz provides the transition between the midwoofer and tweeter.

Lute-Shaped Cabinet

The cabinet retains the lute-shaped form that has defined the Guarneri since its introduction. Its curved sides are constructed from nine layers of wood, carefully oriented and bonded to form a rigid, acoustically controlled enclosure. Internal reinforcement helps suppress unwanted resonances, while solid aluminum Dampshelves at the top and bottom contribute additional structural rigidity and damping. The combination of wood, aluminum, and Italian leather reflects Sonus faber's longstanding emphasis on both acoustic engineering and traditional craftsmanship.

Handcrafted Finishes

Guarneri G5 is offered in Red, Wengè, and Graphite finishes, each combining carefully finished wood surfaces with black Italian leather and aluminum detailing. The high-gloss lacquer highlights the natural grain and curved geometry of the cabinet. These materials and finishes connect Guarneri G5 visually with the larger loudspeakers in the Homage Collection.

Dedicated Guarneri Stand

An optional dedicated stand combines curved carbon fiber elements with aluminum construction. Designed specifically for Guarneri G5, the stand provides a stable foundation and positions the loudspeaker at an appropriate height for seated listening. Its sculptural form complements the cabinet's curved surfaces, creating a visually integrated standmount system. Stands are sold separately.
