Phasemation T-600 MC Step-Up Transformer

Passive MC step-up transformer with 26 dB gain, balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs, and PASS mode for MM cartridges

Suited to cartridges with an output impedance of between 1.5 and 40 ohms, the T-600 is a rigidly built step-up transformer designed to elevate MC cartridge playback. A PASS mode allows the easy use of MM cartridges and high-output MC cartridges in the system without changing connections.

The T-600's chassis follows Phasemation’s higher-end designs with a compact layout, shield cover to suppress magnetic flux leakage, and floating structure with damping rubber to reduce unwanted vibration. This is a passive, low-noise design tailored for serious analog systems.

At its core is a newly designed Phasemation transformer with a thoroughly reviewed manufacturing process, including precise wire-tension control during winding. The result is greater expressive power, wide-band frequency response, and clear spatial imaging across the audible range. Gain is fixed at 26 dB.

Compared to the T-550, the T-600 uses a new transformer for improved sound quality and adds input selection for balanced, unbalanced, and PASS operation. Neutrik XLR connectors, gold-plated RCA terminals, and a rotary switch with gold-plated contacts help keep the signal path short and clean.

Who Needs a SUT?

If you have a low-output moving coil cartridge, a step-up transformer allows you to passively increase the output of the cartridge, letting you use a moving magnet input on a phonostage, which has far less active gain, and therefore far less chance to magnify noise. A SUT has to be very carefully matched to your cartridge, so make sure you talk to our analog team before buying one.
