The Icon series is visually a nod to the past, but sonically the culmination of Onkyo’s accumulated and continuously evolving sound creation technologies. The P-80 offers chunky controls and an elegant central dial. Thanks to patented DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry), the it delivers a vivid yet smooth and comfortable sound from any music source. DIDRC is a discrete signal control circuit developed to make digital sound sources such as CDs and music streaming services sound as natural as analog records. This technology has been further refined and is used in the P-80’s analog filter of the DAC and phono amplifier circuits.

Combine a fan-less design that eliminates noise, a premium stereo DAC (32bit / 768kHz) that reduces distortion, and an extrusion aluminum heat sink for vibration suppression, and this preamp lays a solid foundation for superior sound.

The P-80 housing consists of two aluminum side panels and a steel top panel. This three-piece housing construction increases rigidity and improves seismic resistance. The “oval chassis” with oval press lines strengthens the bottom surface and disperses vibration for altogether improved sound quality.

Hi-fi grade terminals, quality capacitors, and rigid front panels further reduce vibration and signal degradation. The P-80 has a phone circuit independent of other circuits. The P-80 is compatible with both MM and MC cartridges. The MC circuit is designed as discrete and accurately reproduces the output signal of a tiny MC cartridge without distortion.

The P-80 Preamplifier has two independent subwoofer outputs providing enough power to fully express the lowest tones in your music.
