The Musical Fidelity X-Power is a single-inlet, single-outlet power conditioner designed to clean up the AC supply feeding your audio system while adding useful protection against power-line problems. Built in Musical Fidelity’s revived X-profile chassis, the X-Power combines three elements that are not often found together in a compact conditioner: surge and overvoltage protection, EMI/RFI filtering, and DC blocking.

Modern homes are full of electrical noise from switch-mode power supplies, energy-saving lighting, network devices, and other electronics. That noise can ride along the AC line and affect sensitive audio components. The X-Power is designed to reduce that interference before it reaches your system, helping sources, preamps, amplifiers, and other components operate from a cleaner power supply.

Surge and Overvoltage Protection

The X-Power uses a multi-stage protection design with two surge and overvoltage protection stages, one near the input and another in the final stage. These stages are designed to divert excess voltage away from connected equipment, helping protect your audio system from damage caused by grid fluctuations, sudden electrical load changes, and other voltage events.

EMI/RFI Filtering

For noise reduction, the X-Power uses a bespoke EMI/RFI filter with two common-mode chokes, common-mode and differential-mode capacitors, and an additional overvoltage protection stage. Musical Fidelity specifies RFI attenuation of greater than 60 dB at 100 kHz and greater than 80 dB up to 1 MHz, making the X-Power a serious compact solution for reducing high-frequency noise on the power line.

DC Blocking

DC offset on the AC line can cause transformer hum, reduce transformer efficiency, and compromise the behavior of sensitive audio equipment. The X-Power includes a DC blocker using a network of diodes and electrolytic capacitors, allowing AC to pass while blocking unwanted DC components up to 2 V.

Use with Sources and Amplifiers

The X-Power can be used with source components such as CD players, DACs, streamers, phono preamps, and preamps. With its 10A maximum rated output, it can also be used ahead of a high-quality unfiltered power strip to supply multiple source components. Musical Fidelity recommends keeping digital and analog source components separate, and recommends using one X-Power per integrated or power amplifier.
