McIntosh MPC500 Power Controller
Cascaded surge protection with EMI filtering and voltage monitoring
The McIntosh MPC500 Power Controller is designed to protect audio and home theater equipment from inconsistent AC power, primary power-line surges, and secondary surges that can reach connected low-voltage devices. Its cascaded protection system combines multiple technologies to protect both AC power connections and signal connections.
AC power-line protection uses a thermally protected metal-oxide varistor (TPMOV) for line-to-neutral protection. For secondary surge events, the MPC500 uses Gas Discharge Tubes (GDT), Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) thermistors, and Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) components to protect Ethernet, coaxial, and other low-voltage connections.
The MPC500 also provides electromagnetic interference (EMI) filtering and over/under voltage protection. If incoming voltage moves outside acceptable operating limits, the rear receptacles are switched off to protect connected components from operating under potentially damaging conditions.
The MPC500 is available with eight Type B receptacles or four Type F receptacles. Receptacle operation can be configured using the rear-panel Power Control ports or front-panel setup menus. The front-panel display can show input voltage, current draw, or total apparent power, while the black glass front panel, illuminated logo, control knobs, and aluminum end caps maintain traditional McIntosh styling.
