Marantz Horizon Wireless Speaker
Reference six-driver wireless speaker with Marantz Rise GaN FET amplification, HEOS streaming, Dolby Atmos decoding, and HDMI eARC
The Marantz Horizon combines high-performance amplification, advanced digital signal processing, and high-resolution music streaming in a distinctive all-in-one wireless speaker. With six individually powered drivers, Marantz Rise amplification technology, and proprietary Mirage DSP, Horizon is designed to deliver the scale, dynamics, and detail of a sophisticated hi-fi system from a single enclosure.
As part of the Marantz Horizon wireless speaker family, Horizon brings together the company's audio engineering heritage and a striking contemporary design. Its sculptural form, seamless 360° fabric covering, and intuitive AuraControl interface make it as much a carefully considered piece of furniture as a serious audio component. With HEOS Built-in, Apple AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, Spotify Connect, HDMI eARC, and extensive wired connectivity, Horizon can serve as a complete music and entertainment system without requiring separate amplification or loudspeakers.
Marantz Rise Amplification
At the heart of Horizon is Marantz Rise, a proprietary amplifier design employing gallium nitride field-effect transistors (GaN FETs). These devices can switch rapidly and efficiently, allowing the amplifier to deliver substantial power from a compact architecture while maintaining precise control of the loudspeaker drivers.
Horizon delivers 310 W of total amplifier power under the FTC rating standard, with an advertised peak output of 745 W. Marantz also specifies 1,160 W of peak raw amplifier power, a figure describing the amplifier's potential peak capability rather than continuous acoustic output. The two peak figures are not measured under the FTC standard.
This powerful amplification system provides the headroom needed for demanding musical passages, helping Horizon reproduce dynamic contrasts and deep bass without the limitations commonly associated with smaller wireless speakers.
Marantz's Sound Master tuning process further refines the speaker's performance through careful listening evaluations and adjustments to its amplification, driver integration, and digital processing. The result is intended to deliver the company's characteristic balance of musical detail, tonal richness, and spaciousness.
Six-Driver Acoustic Architecture
Horizon incorporates a six-driver array engineered to reproduce a wide frequency range with substantial output and controlled dispersion. At its foundation is a single 6.5" Marantz Gravity bass driver, supported by three 2" wideband drivers and two 1" high-frequency drivers.
The Marantz Gravity drivers use powerful neodymium magnets to provide the magnetic force required for precise cone control. Their design is intended to combine strong dynamic performance with low distortion, even at elevated playback levels.
The 6.5" bass driver provides the low-frequency foundation, while the three wideband drivers handle much of the musical information through the midrange. Two high-frequency drivers reproduce upper-frequency detail and contribute to the speaker's broad sound dispersion.
This arrangement allows Horizon to achieve a specified frequency response of 30 Hz to 20 kHz (±3 dB), extending to 22 Hz at -10 dB. Maximum sound pressure level is rated at 104 dB at 1 m, with peak output reaching 114.5 dB at the same distance.
The combination of dedicated drivers, substantial amplification, and carefully optimized processing allows Horizon to deliver full-range sound from a single enclosure without relying on an external subwoofer.
Marantz Mirage Digital Signal Processing
Marantz Mirage is a proprietary digital signal processing system developed specifically for the Horizon speaker family. Rather than treating the multiple drivers as a conventional pair of stereo loudspeakers, Mirage DSP coordinates their output to produce a cohesive soundstage extending beyond the physical boundaries of the enclosure.
Digital processing manages the interaction between the bass, wideband, and high-frequency drivers, optimizing their contributions across the audible frequency range. This allows Horizon to create a convincing sense of musical space while maintaining tonal balance and clarity.
The processing system also helps Horizon maintain consistent performance across different listening levels and musical material, allowing the speaker to handle everything from intimate acoustic recordings to large-scale orchestral and electronic music.
With support for Dolby Atmos and other multichannel audio formats, Horizon can also process immersive soundtracks and distribute their information across its six-driver array. Although it remains a single-enclosure speaker rather than a discrete multichannel system, Mirage DSP is designed to create a more expansive presentation than its physical dimensions might suggest.
High-Resolution Music Streaming With HEOS
With HEOS Built-in, Horizon provides convenient access to music streaming services, internet radio, and locally stored digital music. The HEOS app allows listeners to browse music, select sources, adjust volume, and control playback from a smartphone or tablet.
Supported streaming services include Amazon Music, TIDAL, Spotify, Pandora, Deezer, SiriusXM, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, SoundCloud, and others, with availability varying by region. HEOS also provides access to music stored on compatible network-attached storage devices and computers connected to the same network.
For listeners with their own digital music libraries, Horizon supports high-resolution PCM playback up to 24-bit/192 kHz and DSD files at 2.8 MHz and 5.6 MHz. Supported formats include FLAC, ALAC, WAV, MP3, AAC, WMA, and DSD.
Apple AirPlay 2 makes it easy to stream directly from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, while Bluetooth 5.4 provides a convenient wireless connection for compatible devices. Spotify Connect offers direct control of Spotify playback from the Spotify app.
USB-C storage playback provides another way to enjoy locally stored music without requiring a computer or network connection. Compatible FAT32- and NTFS-formatted storage devices can be connected directly to the speaker.
Multiroom Audio Made Simple
Horizon can also be part of a larger HEOS multiroom audio system. Connect additional HEOS-enabled Marantz or Denon components throughout the home, and use the HEOS app to play different music in different rooms or synchronize playback across multiple listening areas.
This allows Horizon to serve as the primary music system in a living room or other listening space while smaller HEOS speakers provide music in bedrooms, offices, kitchens, or secondary listening areas.
Each zone can be controlled independently, with separate source selection and volume adjustment. Alternatively, multiple HEOS devices can be grouped together for synchronized music playback throughout the home.
Better TV Sound With HDMI eARC
Horizon is equally capable as the centerpiece of a television audio system. Its HDMI eARC connection allows audio from a compatible television to be reproduced through the speaker, providing an alternative to a conventional soundbar or separate AV receiver and loudspeaker system.
Built-in decoding supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, and multichannel LPCM, allowing Horizon to handle audio from television broadcasts, movies, games, and streaming video services.
The HDMI connection supports enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) and conventional ARC operation, allowing compatible televisions to send audio to the speaker through a single HDMI cable.
For multichannel sources, Horizon supports PCM signals up to 24-bit/192 kHz across as many as 7.1 channels. Marantz Mirage processing then adapts the incoming material for reproduction through the speaker's integrated driver array.
An optical digital input provides an additional connection for compatible televisions, CD players, and other digital audio components.
Marantz AuraControl Interface
Horizon features Marantz AuraControl, an integrated user interface designed to make everyday operation intuitive without compromising the speaker's appearance. Touch-sensitive controls provide convenient access to volume adjustment and playback functions, with multicolored LED illumination communicating operating status.
The controls are integrated into the speaker's distinctive design, avoiding the visual clutter of a conventional control panel. Volume adjustment, play/pause operation, and source control can also be managed through the HEOS app.
Dedicated connection and Bluetooth buttons on the rear panel simplify initial setup and wireless pairing.
This combination of onboard controls and app-based operation makes Horizon suitable for both casual listening and more elaborate network audio systems.
Marantz Radiance 360° Seamless Fabric
The exterior of Horizon features Marantz Radiance, a specially developed 360° seamless fabric covering. Designed to balance visual appearance, tactile quality, durability, and acoustic transparency, the material wraps around the speaker's sculptural enclosure without the conventional grille seams found on many loudspeakers.
The fabric is engineered to allow sound from the internal drivers to pass through with minimal obstruction while maintaining a consistent appearance from different viewing angles.
Marantz has also incorporated design elements inspired by its traditional hi-fi components, translating the company's recognizable visual identity into a new form intended for prominent placement within a living space.
Horizon is available in three finishes: Midnight Sky, Moon Ray, and Marantz Champagne. Each finish presents a different interpretation of the speaker's combination of textured fabric, refined detailing, and sculptural form.
Optional Walnut Tripod Stand
Marantz offers an optional tripod stand designed specifically for Horizon. Combining American walnut with cast iron finished in satin black, the stand complements the speaker's sculptural design while positioning it at an appropriate height for listening.
The tripod provides an alternative to placing Horizon on a tabletop, shelf, or cabinet, allowing the speaker to function as a freestanding element within a room. Its combination of natural wood and metal reflects the same attention to materials and construction found in the speaker itself.
Flexible Connectivity and System Integration
Along with its extensive wireless capabilities, Horizon provides a stereo RCA analog input for connecting conventional audio sources, an optical digital input, HDMI eARC/ARC, and a USB-C port for compatible storage devices.
Wired Ethernet and dual-band Wi-Fi provide flexible network connectivity. The wireless networking system supports IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax standards, allowing the speaker to connect to compatible modern wireless networks.
Horizon also supports integration with popular custom installation control platforms, including Crestron, Control4, and AMX, through TCP/IP control.
Although Horizon is designed to operate as a self-contained system, its extensive input and control options make it suitable for integration into more elaborate home entertainment installations.
A Complete High-Performance Music System
Horizon brings together the major elements of a serious audio system in a single enclosure: amplification, loudspeaker drivers, digital signal processing, high-resolution streaming, digital-to-analog conversion, and source connectivity.
Its substantial bass capability, wide frequency response, and high output make it suitable for living rooms and other spaces where a conventional compact wireless speaker may struggle to deliver convincing musical scale. At the same time, its unified design eliminates the need for separate amplifiers, loudspeaker cables, and component racks.
For listeners who want the convenience of an all-in-one system without surrendering the engineering ambition of traditional hi-fi, Horizon represents an ambitious approach to wireless speaker design.
