Marantz CD6007 CD Player / Transport

High-performance CD playback with AK4490 DAC, selectable digital filters, HDAM-SA2 circuitry, and high-resolution USB audio

Improving upon the successful CD6006, the finely tuned Marantz CD6007 offers even more specially selected components and an enhanced circuit layout. Rigid feet further eliminate unwanted vibration, while the oversized low-noise power supply feeds the digital and analog circuitry of the player. Designed for music enthusiasts who value the sound and simplicity of physical media, the CD6007 combines traditional CD playback with high-resolution audio file support through its front-panel USB port.

The high-quality AK4490 DAC, along with two selectable digital filter options, converts digital signals to analog. The resulting signal is then delivered to the gold-plated analog outputs through Marantz's proprietary HDAM-SA2 amplifier circuitry. In addition, the CD6007 features a newly developed headphone amplifier with adjustable gain to accommodate a wide range of headphones.

Precision Digital-to-Analog Conversion

At the heart of the CD6007 is the AKM AK4490 DAC, which supports 24-bit/192 kHz digital-to-analog conversion. Working with a high-accuracy system clock, the DAC is designed to reproduce music with precise timing, low distortion, and excellent resolution.

Two selectable digital filters allow listeners to tailor the player's presentation to their preferences. These filters provide different approaches to digital reconstruction, offering a choice in how the CD6007 handles the conversion of digital audio into an analog signal.

The CD6007 achieves a signal-to-noise ratio of 110 dB, a dynamic range of 100 dB, and total harmonic distortion of just 0.002%, providing a technically accomplished foundation for music playback.

Marantz HDAM Technology

Rather than relying exclusively on conventional integrated-circuit operational amplifiers, Marantz uses its proprietary Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Modules (HDAM) in the CD6007's analog output stage. These discrete circuits are developed to provide high slew rates and wide bandwidth, allowing the player to handle rapidly changing musical signals with precision.

The CD6007 incorporates HDAM circuitry in its low-pass filter stage and HDAM-SA2 technology in its output buffer. Together, these circuits are designed to maintain signal integrity following digital-to-analog conversion, preserving fine musical detail and dynamic contrasts.

Marantz's Sound Master tuning process also plays an important role in the CD6007's design. Carefully selected components and refinements to the analog circuitry are intended to deliver the company's characteristic balance of detail, warmth, and musicality.

High-Resolution Playback From USB

In addition to conventional CDs and recordable CD-R/RW discs, the CD6007 can play digital audio files stored on compatible USB storage devices. The front-panel USB-A connection provides access to high-resolution music without requiring a separate computer or network streamer.

Supported file formats include FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC, MP3, AAC, WMA, and DSD. This allows listeners to enjoy both compressed music files and higher-resolution recordings through the player's internal DAC and analog output circuitry.

The front-panel USB input is intended for compatible storage devices rather than direct USB DAC operation from a computer. For listeners maintaining a digital music collection on a flash drive or external storage device, it offers a straightforward way to access that library through a conventional hi-fi system.

Note that the CD6007 does not play SACDs or read data discs containing DSD, WAV, or ALAC files. These formats are supported through the USB input instead.

Improved Power Supply and Mechanical Construction

Marantz has paid particular attention to the CD6007's power supply and internal layout. An oversized, low-noise power supply provides stable power to the digital and analog sections, while separate rectifier circuits help reduce interference between the two sections.

The symmetrical circuit layout is designed to maintain consistent signal paths, while specially selected audio components contribute to the player's overall performance. An additional metal plate reinforces the chassis, and rigid feet help minimize the transmission of unwanted vibration to the player.

These refinements build upon the CD6006's established design, focusing on improvements in power delivery, mechanical stability, and analog signal handling rather than introducing unnecessary complexity.

Dedicated Headphone Amplifier

The CD6007 includes a dedicated headphone amplifier incorporating Marantz HDAM-SA2 buffer circuitry. Designed to provide high-quality listening without requiring an external headphone amplifier, this circuit offers a convenient way to enjoy CDs and USB audio through headphones.

Selectable headphone gain settings allow the output to be matched more appropriately to headphones with different sensitivities and impedance characteristics. A front-panel headphone volume control provides independent adjustment for private listening.

Flexible Connectivity and Everyday Operation

The CD6007 provides gold-plated stereo RCA analog outputs for connection to an integrated amplifier, preamplifier, or receiver. Optical and coaxial digital outputs also allow the player to function as a CD transport with an external DAC or an amplifier equipped with digital inputs.

For listeners using the analog outputs, the digital outputs can be switched off to reduce unnecessary digital circuit activity during playback.

Convenience features include a dimmable front-panel display, programmable playback of up to 25 tracks, repeat and random playback modes, and a supplied remote control. A detachable power cable and Marantz remote-control bus connections provide additional flexibility when integrating the CD6007 into an existing audio system.
