Marantz AMP 10 16-Channel Power Amplifier
Reference 16-channel power amplifier with 200 Wpc, custom class-D amplification, Marantz HDAM-SA2 circuitry, and balanced inputs
The Marantz AMP 10 is a reference 16-channel power amplifier designed to provide the power, control, and refinement required for a large-scale immersive home theater system. Delivering 200 W per channel into 8 ohms or 400 W into 4 ohms, the AMP 10 combines substantial output power with the warm, rich, and musical sound for which Marantz is known. Pair it with the Marantz AV 10 preamplifier/processor for a fully matched reference separates system.
The Upscale View
Marantz is one of very few household-name audio brands that we recommend even to critical listeners. Marantz has been able to stay on top of technological advances without losing sight of its heritage. For home cinema especially, we unhesitatingly recommend Marantz as the affordable yet high-fidelity solution when most of your hard-earned money is going into your reference stereo rig.
Custom-Designed class-D Amplification
At the heart of the AMP 10 are 16 channels of custom-designed class-D amplification, supported by a robust power supply and Marantz's proprietary HDAM-SA2 (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) circuitry. The class-D output stages provide high power and efficiency, while the HDAM circuitry is part of the carefully engineered signal path that gives the amplifier its characteristic Marantz sound. From quiet dialogue and subtle ambient effects to demanding action sequences, the AMP 10 is designed to reproduce the full dynamic range of a movie soundtrack with clarity and authority.
Unlike many manufacturers that rely solely on measurements to evaluate amplifier performance, Marantz also employs a dedicated Sound Master to fine-tune its products through extensive listening evaluations. The AMP 10 benefits from this approach, combining the precision and control needed for multichannel soundtracks with the tonal richness and natural presentation that have long distinguished Marantz components.
Flexible Amplification for Complex Systems
With 16 independent amplifier channels, the AMP 10 can drive an extensive Dolby Atmos or DTS:X speaker configuration without requiring multiple power amplifiers. Each channel has both balanced XLR and single-ended RCA inputs, selectable by a switch, making the AMP 10 compatible with a wide variety of home theater processors and preamplifiers.
For systems requiring additional power or more elaborate speaker arrangements, the AMP 10 offers selectable bi-amp and BTL (bridge-tied load) operating modes. Bi-amping allows two amplifier channels to drive separate sections of a compatible loudspeaker, while BTL mode combines two channels to provide 400 W into 8 ohms. These options give installers and enthusiasts the flexibility to allocate amplification according to the requirements of individual speakers and system configurations.
Reference Construction and System Integration
Built at Marantz's Shirakawa facility in Japan, the AMP 10 features a copper-plated chassis, a substantial power supply, and high-quality speaker terminals. Its construction reflects the demands of a high-channel-count amplifier designed to operate as the centerpiece of a sophisticated home theater system.
Despite its extensive amplification capabilities, the AMP 10 maintains the clean, understated appearance of Marantz's premium components. The metal front panel features the brand's signature circular level meter, while subtle sidelights illuminate the sculpted front-panel design. The result is an amplifier that looks equally at home in a dedicated equipment rack or on display in a listening room.
For integration into a custom-installed home theater, the AMP 10 provides RS232 control, an IR flasher input, Marantz Remote Bus connections, and 12 V trigger input and output. These connections allow coordinated power operation and system control alongside compatible components, including the matching AV 10 processor.
