Grado GS3000 Open-Air Headphones
52 mm X2 drivers, cocobolo and aluminum housings, a Signature Gold headband assembly, Gold cable, and G cushions
The Grado GS3000 combines the largest X2 driver in the Classic Series with housings made from cocobolo and precision-machined aluminum. Its 52 mm dynamic driver and G cushions are designed to provide deep bass extension, substantial dynamic headroom, and an expansive sense of scale.
The X2 dynamic driver uses a Mylar diaphragm, copper voice coil, and rare-earth magnet system engineered for efficiency and dynamic control. Grado’s tuning is intended to improve balance, resolution, and low-frequency control while preserving the lively character associated with the company’s open-air headphones.
Cocobolo and Aluminum Housings
The GS3000 pairs a cocobolo outer housing with a precision-machined aluminum inner insert. According to Grado, the dense cocobolo contributes warmth, depth, and natural resonance, while the aluminum insert adds structural rigidity and helps control internal resonance.
Combining the two materials allows the housing to balance the tonal character of wood with the stability and precision of metal.
Signature Gold Headband Assembly
The GS3000 uses Grado’s Signature Gold headband assembly, the company’s most refined mechanical platform within the Classic Series. Engraved aluminum-alloy gimbals, stainless steel height rods, and reinforced aluminum junction blocks improve structural stability and durability while maintaining controlled earcup rotation.
A genuine leather headstrap with contrasting white stitching provides cushioning, while an internal steel spring band lets you adjust the clamping pressure. The GS3000 uses a wider headstrap to distribute the weight of its larger housings more evenly and improve stability.
Gold Cable and G Cushions
The GS3000 is supplied with Grado’s Gold cable, developed to support the 52 mm driver platform while maintaining signal integrity and flexibility. It is available with either Grado’s standard connector or an optional XLR termination.
The GS3000 is supplied with G cushions, which position the drivers farther from the ears to increase perceived soundstage width and dimensionality. Because Grado’s cushions also act as acoustic tuning elements, they can be changed to alter the fit, tonal balance, and presentation.
