Grado RS1 Open-Air Headphones
50 mm X2 drivers, tri-wood cocobolo, hemp, and maple housings, a Signature Gold headband assembly, and L cushions
The Grado RS1 combines the company’s 50 mm X2 dynamic driver with distinctive tri-wood housings made from cocobolo, hemp, and maple. Its tuning emphasizes expressive midrange detail and musical immediacy, while the three housing materials provide a combination of density, damping, and structural stability.
The X2 dynamic driver uses a Mylar diaphragm, copper voice coil, and rare-earth magnet system. L cushions position the drivers close to the ears, contributing to the RS1’s focused and immediate presentation.
Tri-Wood Housings
The RS1’s housings combine cocobolo, hemp, and maple. According to Grado, the different acoustic properties of these materials work together to produce a layered and controlled presentation.
Signature Gold Headband Assembly
The RS1 uses Grado’s Signature Gold headband assembly, the company’s most refined mechanical platform within the Classic Series. Engraved aluminum-alloy gimbals, stainless steel height rods, and reinforced aluminum junction blocks improve structural stability and durability while maintaining controlled earcup rotation.
A genuine leather headstrap with contrasting white stitching provides cushioning, while an internal steel spring band lets you adjust the clamping pressure.
Signature Silver Cable and L Cushions
Grado’s Signature Silver cable is designed to reduce weight and improve flexibility. The standard version is terminated with a 3.5 mm plug and includes a removable 1/4" adapter, while an XLR-terminated version is also available.
The RS1 is supplied with L cushions, which contribute to its focused and immediate presentation. Because Grado’s cushions also act as acoustic tuning elements, they can be changed to alter the fit, tonal balance, and presentation.
