Grado SR80 Open-Back Headphones

A 44 mm X2 dynamic driver, lightweight molded housing, adjustable steel headband, and an easy-to-drive 38-ohm impedance

The Grado SR80 offers an accessible introduction to the open, immediate sound that has defined Grado headphones for generations. Its open-back design allows music to breathe, producing a spacious presentation with clear midrange, natural detail, and the lively musical character that makes Grado headphones so engaging.

At the center of the SR80 is Grado’s 44 mm X2 dynamic driver, built around a Mylar diaphragm, copper voice coil, and rare-earth magnetic system. The driver is tuned for balance and musicality rather than exaggerated bass or artificial detail, while its 38-ohm impedance and 98 dB sensitivity allow the SR80 to work well with a wide range of headphone amplifiers, portable players, and other everyday sources. Compared with the SR60, the SR80 offers greater immediacy and presence, with tighter bass, more forward midrange energy, and extended high-frequency detail.

The lightweight die-injection molded housings are fitted to Grado’s standard headband assembly, which combines a padded synthetic headstrap with an adjustable steel spring band. Listeners can gently adjust the band’s inward pressure to fine-tune the fit. Grado’s F cushions bring the drivers closer to the ears, reinforcing the SR80’s energetic presentation, and can be replaced with other Grado cushion styles to subtly alter the headphone’s tonal balance and presentation.

The SR80 is supplied with Grado’s fixed Bronze cable, terminated in a 3.5 mm plug for broad compatibility. An attached 1/4" adapter can be removed when connecting the headphones to portable or compact components.
