The Focal Scala Utopia Evo M opens a new chapter for one of Focal’s most recognizable high-end loudspeakers. It retains the 3-way design and sculptural architecture that made Scala Utopia famous, while incorporating the latest Utopia technologies for greater expression, precision, and control.

At the heart of the Scala Utopia Evo M is a new driver complement that draws from Focal’s most advanced work in both hi-fi and professional audio. The reinforced “W” midrange now features an “M”-profile cone and TMD suspension, while the redesigned 11" “W” woofer uses a large dual-ferrite motor for powerful, tightly controlled bass. High frequencies are handled by Focal’s new PRISM “M”-profile inverted-dome tweeter with IAL2 loading, extending response up to 40 kHz.

PRISM Tweeter with IAL2

The Scala Utopia Evo M uses Focal’s 27mm PRISM “M”-profile inverted-dome tweeter with IAL2 loading. PRISM stands for Photon-Refined Intelligent Structured Membrane, and the design gives the tweeter very wide bandwidth, extending up to 40 kHz. IAL2 loading lowers the tweeter’s resonance frequency to 528 Hz, supporting smoother integration with the midrange driver.

Reinforced “W” Midrange with “M”-Profile

The 5" midrange driver uses Focal’s reinforced “W” composite sandwich cone with an “M”-profile geometry, inspired by technologies developed for the Utopia Main professional range. The driver is fitted with TMD suspension, a neodymium magnet, and an 80mm voice coil for improved coil centering and high power handling. The result is a natural, highly detailed midrange with very low distortion.

Redesigned “W” Woofer

The 11" woofer uses Focal’s “W” composite sandwich technology with more precise laser cutting, paired with a 16cm dual-ferrite motor. This redesigned low-frequency driver is built for more precise reproduction and stronger control, giving the Scala Utopia Evo M deep, powerful bass with the speed and articulation expected from a Utopia loudspeaker.

Focus Time and Gamma Structure

Focal’s Focus Time architecture mechanically aligns the drivers and orients them toward the listener for improved phase coherence. The cabinet uses Focal’s Gamma Structure construction, with high-density MDF panels up to 6cm thick to create a stable mechanical reference frame. The heavy, anti-vibration structure is optimized through vibration mapping to reduce cabinet coloration.

OPC+ Filtering and System Matching

The Scala Utopia Evo M uses Focal’s OPC+ filter with very low distortion hi-fi components and large cross-section internal cabling. The design allows bass and treble adjustment to ±1 dB, along with midrange adjustment for room and system tuning. Four insulated WBT connectors allow for bi-wiring or bi-amping.
