Final Audio DX10000 CL Collector's Edition Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones
A 150-unit edition pairing Final's True Diamond flagship platform with gold accents, a Tango Chirimen silk bag, dedicated aluminum stand, and paulownia presentation box
The Final Audio DX10000 CL Collector's Edition is the initial limited-production version of Final's closed-back flagship. Production is limited to 150 units worldwide, with gold-colored exterior details and a set of presentation accessories created specifically for the edition.
Its acoustic platform is the DX10000 CL: a newly developed 40 mm dynamic driver with a CVD-grown True Diamond diaphragm, N55 neodymium magnetic circuit, five-axis-machined aluminum-magnesium housing, carefully controlled ear-pad permeability, and a 12-point through-bolt structure engineered for rigidity and airtightness.
True Diamond Diaphragm
Final uses a self-supporting diamond dome rather than a diamond coating applied to a conventional diaphragm. The material is grown on a silicon substrate using chemical vapor deposition, or CVD, after which the silicon is removed to leave the diamond diaphragm.
Diamond offers unusually high bending rigidity together with strong internal damping. The rigidity helps the diaphragm resist deformation under acceleration, while the damping allows unwanted motion to decay rapidly once the signal stops.
Final developed a steep dome profile with cylindrical reinforcing ribs around its perimeter to reconcile the high stiffness of diamond with its relatively high density. Final reports extremely low driver distortion, including distortion below 100 Hz measuring less than one-hundredth that of its conventional reference design.
Driver Designed Around the Diamond Dome
The diaphragm is supported by a specially formulated polyurethane surround combining low mass, flexibility, and resistance to long-term deterioration. A rigid but lightweight polyimide voice-coil bobbin helps transmit force to the diaphragm while maintaining accurate piston motion.
The voice-coil leads are suspended rather than bonded to the flexible surround. This preserves mechanical symmetry around the moving system and avoids concentrating adhesive and wire mass at one point. Final developed a high-strength aluminum-alloy lead wire to provide the fatigue resistance required by this free-floating arrangement.
An N55 neodymium magnet provides the high magnetic flux required to control the driver. The magnetic circuit also incorporates an aluminum shorting ring to reduce inductive effects and stabilize the field during large excursions. Precisely shaped damping material behind the diaphragm suppresses internal reflections and resonances.
Five-Axis-Machined Closed-Back Housing
The DX10000 CL treats enclosure rigidity and airtightness as part of the acoustic design. The aluminum-magnesium housing is machined using five-axis CNC equipment to create the steep surfaces, complex shapes, and dimensional precision required by the driver and internal air volume.
Internal machining removes unnecessary material while preserving rigidity, and acoustic material fills selected cavities to control resonances. Twelve screws pass completely through the outer housing to the front plate that retains the ear pad, applying strong and consistent clamping around the entire assembly.
The structure uses screws rather than adhesive for its principal joints, allowing the enclosure to be disassembled and reassembled for long-term servicing.
Controlled-Permeability Ultrasuede Ear Pads
Final avoids completely sealing the ear-pad cavity. Ultrasuede's finely structured fibers allow a small, controlled amount of airflow while maintaining an effective acoustic seal. Combined with specially selected internal foam, this allows Final to establish the required pad volume and frequency balance without relying on an excessively sealed cavity to reinforce the bass.
Collector's Edition Finish and Presentation
The Collector's Edition adds gold-colored details to the black chassis and is supplied in a traditional paulownia wood presentation box. It also includes a specially commissioned Shingen bag made from Tango Chirimen silk, a traditional textile woven in the Tango region of Kyoto.
The bag was commissioned from Ito Ko, a Japanese silk textile maker founded in 1931. Its Tango Chirimen fabric is dyed an ink-black color and incorporates gold thread, paired with a deep-purple pure-silk fabric.
A dedicated headphone stand machined from aluminum is also included. The compact stand is shaped specifically to support and display the DX10000 CL.
Two Silver-Coated Cables
Final supplies two silver-coated OFC cables developed with Junkosha. The 1.5 m cable terminates in a 4.4 mm balanced connector and uses low-dielectric ePTFE insulation. The 3 m cable terminates in 4-pin XLR and uses larger-cross-section conductors with durable PFA insulation. Adapters allow either cable to be connected to a 6.3 mm headphone output.
