Reserve Your Anniversary Khorn

Wood-veneer floorstanding horn loudspeaker with a book-matched dark wood finish, brass accent inlays, and a large black horn mounted on top. The speaker stands beside a low wood media cabinet holding a silver audio component in a warmly lit listening room with hardwood floors and framed technical artwork on the wall.

The Klipsch Limited Edition 80th Anniversary Klipschorn is a celebration of Paul W. Klipsch’s original 1946 loudspeaker design.

Some heritage companies cling so tightly to their identity that they lose relevance as the world changes around them. Others completely dilute their original character as they adapt to new tastes and technologies. And a few are able to hold onto everything that made them great, changing just enough to stay competitive in a modern world.

Klipsch is one of the latter. It still makes large, unapologetic horn-loaded speakers with beautiful wooden cabinets, but crucial technologies and materials have been updated. Modern Klipsch loudspeakers preserve the company's legendary slam and presence, but offer far better top- and bottom-end response, as well as better delicacy and detail.

For its 80th anniversary, Klipsch celebrates Paul W. Klipsch’s original 1946 loudspeaker design, but behind the massive horn and rich, inlaid wood cabinet is a host of modern innovations. There's the updated horn design that better releases the "bubble" of sound, eliminating noticeable upper-end breakup and harshness. There are new compression drivers with updated motor structures from the flagship Jubilee. There's an active DSP crossover in matching tigerwood veneer that corrects the sound for your room and tailors it to your listening preferences.

Ken Davis, our sales manager, describes these speakers as a "mini Jubilee." This is no slight, as the Jubilee is Klipsch's magnum opus, a 5' 9" tall, 4' wide giant that uses a 5" HF driver and a 12" woofer, both horn-loaded, and goes down to 18 Hz.

Ken notes that the Khorn uses the same principle of a horn-loaded bass and mid-tweeter and has all of the virtues of the Jubilee, just on a smaller scale. "It's unique. As a two-way, everything from 350 cycles on up comes from one driver, so there's no crossover involved in most things that ears are sensitive to, such as human voices and acoustic instruments."

With a 4" horn-loaded tweeter and a 15" folded-horn-loaded woofer, the Khorn can move air like no other speaker.

Early Birds Get the Watch

Klipsch has announced that the first 80 buyers will get a commemorative watch ($2,500 value). Kevin has personally ensured that the first Upscale Audio customers to buy these beauties will get the watch too. All purchases also include a limited-run 180 g vinyl pressing of Paul W. Klipsch’s original KlipschTape recordings. These early 1950s stereo demonstrations have long been out of print and, in some cases, never-before-heard, offering listeners a direct connection to the origins of high-fidelity sound.

All this excitement began after Kevin saw the 80th Anniversary Khorns at the Vienna Audio Show and fell in love. He was drawn not just to the sound and crafted inlay finish, but to the fact that the electronic crossover allows you to fine-tune the loudspeaker to "the room you have now, and any room you have down the road." This is well worth noting: You can dial the speakers in for a smaller room, then crank them up and let them bloom into a large room when you move.

Kevin immediately placed a large order for these pieces of hi-fi history that also communicate hi-fi's future and connect you with music in a way few other loudspeakers can. We can't wait for you to see and experience them and fall in love too!

You can reserve yours by placing a refundable $500 deposit, which can be applied toward the purchase or held as a gift card. If you make the deposit directly and didn't work with a salesperson, we’ll contact you as soon as possible to ensure that these are the right fit for you and your system.
