Parasound Halo P6 2.1 Channel Preamplifier and DAC

It would be nearly impossible to buy separate components that perform as well as each of its built-in features for less than perhaps double that of its selling price. I could argue that the DAC in the Halo P 6 alone is worth the $1,699 selling price.
— MICHAEL ZISSERSON, FUTURE AUDIOPHILE

Preamp with HT bypass, bass management, as well as onboard USB DAC, MM/MC phonostage, and dedicated high-current headphone amp.

The Parasound Halo P6 is a stereo preamp that offers analog bass management with high- and low-pass crossovers, and front-panel subwoofer control. A home theater bypass input allows for surround sound integration.

Adding to the flexibility is an onboard Sabre DAC with a USB input that can handle 384/23 PCM audio and native DSD64, DSD128, DSD256, and DoP DSD. There is also an MM/MC phonostage and a dedicated high-current headphone amp.

The P 6 uses a Burr Brown analog resistor ladder volume control with a ball-bearing-supported solid aluminum volume knob. There are balanced and single-ended line outputs and subwoofer outputs. The bass and treble controls come with a relay bypass to remove them from the signal path.

The Upscale View

Parasound is one of the industry's low-key, high-return brands. It's not always the first name on a customer's lips, yet is a hugely respected and loved brand by people who work in high-end audio. This isn't just because of the legendary John Curl who is behind most of its top-flight designs, but also because Parasound uses such expensive and solid engineering, yet is able to price its products so reasonably. Parasound is the brand of choice for someone who really knows good sound, but doesn't have the budget for audio jewellery.
