This tube is new old stock, and hasn't been made since the 1980's. It's THE most durable 6922 types we have. It is very clear in the mids. Great extension top and bottom. Not as warm as the type 2. But if you have had trouble with noise or you own a difficult preamp, this is the tube for you. We used to supply these to the Audible Illusions factory for production back in the day.
You may find these for a little less elsewhere, but they are "pulls" meaning used/test good. Russians are very good at not throwing away anything.Â
The cheaper ones may save you $20 but nobody knows how good they really are plus at Upscale Audio you are guaranteed NEW OLD STOCK and each tube is tested BY EAR, IN CIRCUIT using a simulated Moving Coil Phono Stage. Â
We understand that some folks need to save that $20. If you can, get the best. Â
Â
If you are having problems with 6922 tubes going noisy or microphonic, look at the specifications for your preamp. If it has 25dB of gain or higher, it will be rougher on your tubes. Â
Box and logo may vary from picture above.
Kevin's Stash - These are the finest period. When we test a batch, we take the top 10% of the group, as if Kevin were taking some for his own system. Â
Platinum grade - The best outside Kevin's Stash. Lowest noise and microphony with the tightest triode balance we have available. This is typically about 10%-15% , but may be higher depending on available stock.
Gold grade - Low noise and microphonics with a triode balance typically between 15% and 20%, but may be higher depending on available stock.
Driver/Buffer grade - Lowest noise but not the lowest in microphony. Triode balance will be similar to Gold grade.
This grade is only suitable for use in the driver stage of an amplifier, or the output/buffer stage of a DAC or CD Player.
If you have a preamp or phonostage, you need at least Gold grade.
