Hekla works in rooms that require great sound where the design doesn’t allow for a whole home theater.
We Don’t Need Another Soundbar… (But We Want This One!)
Your system probably isn’t in the TV room. It’s off somewhere else, tucked away just for you. It’s where you go when you have time to listen to music on purpose—to really get into the music for a while and forget about the world outside.
That’s not what the Focal Mu-so Hekla is for.
Hekla is for the TV room. It sits under the TV, on a credenza, and gives you genuinely great sound for the things that happen there: movies, television, streaming music, or whatever else the family happens to be watching or listening to.
Focal has been careful about calling Hekla a soundbar, and we understand why. Calling it a soundbar is technically accurate, but it doesn’t tell you very much about what Hekla actually does. Inside that beautifully made aluminum chassis are 15 individually amplified speaker drivers powered by a total of 660 watts. It’s a serious piece of audio engineering disguised as something you can put underneath your television.
And you hear it immediately. Intelligibility, dynamics, and sheer scale are the things that stand out first. Dialogue is easy to understand, movies have real impact, and music sounds like something an audio company made—not something added to a television as an afterthought.
But the reason we really like Hekla has less to do with its specifications. It solves a problem.
The chassis for Hekla is made of aluminum and houses 15 separately amplified drivers.
If It’s Good Enough for Cardas…
Most of us who care about audio have spent years building systems around the idea that performance comes first. Big speakers. Amplifiers. Racks. Cables. We love that stuff. But not every room in the house needs to become a dedicated listening room.
We recently got a call from Angela Cardas and Josh Meredith of Cardas Audio after they returned from an audio show where they had heard Hekla. They wanted one. We asked why.
“Because we need good sound for our TV but don’t have room for a whole home theater.”
That got our attention. Angela and Josh are married and run Cardas Audio, the high-performance cable company many of you already know. They’re serious audio people who have built their lives around music and good sound.
They already have the kind of high-performance separates system you would expect them to have. They weren’t looking to replace it. They wanted Hekla for the room where a big audio system simply didn’t make sense—the living room where people watch Netflix, stream music, hang out together, and cook Sunday dinner in the kitchen.

For best results, place Hekla on a credenza or TV stand with plenty of room above. Those speakers fire up!
Great Sound for the Whole Family
Then Josh said something that may be the best endorsement of Hekla we’ve heard:
“I am kind of worried we’ll use our main system less because of how good the Hekla is, but we just don’t want a low-quality soundbar in there.”
Exactly.
Hekla isn’t trying to replace the system you built for serious listening. It’s for all those other hours of the week when you still care what things sound like.
It handles music streaming, immersive home-theater formats, and the connections you’d expect from a modern centerpiece for your living room. It can create a remarkably large, enveloping presentation from a single chassis, and there’s even a subwoofer output if you want more low-end authority in a larger room.
That’s ultimately why Hekla makes sense to us.
Your big system is still where you go when you want to listen to music on purpose.
Hekla is what makes you stop tolerating mediocre sound everywhere else.
