PS Audio DirectStream Junior DAC
A completely custom FPGA-based PCM and DSD DAC with I2S. Designed and manufactured in Colorado.
DirectStream is one of the most remarkable DACS ever built as all the major reviewers agree. The DirectStream Junior is nearly every bit as good as the flagship, and also has completely custom-written code that allows the DAC to extract every bit of performance from the hardware.
CD’s, streaming audio, high-resolution PCM, or DSD files are upsampled in the DirectStream to high-speed DSD. The use of an FPGA rather than an off-the-shelf DAC chip provides immense processing power, resulting in a complete lack of digital glare.
The DirectStream has XLR, RCA, optical, and USB inputs, as well as I2S.
The Power of I Squared S
Using an HDMI cable, the I2S connection can be used only with another compatible PS Audio component such as the DirectStream Memory Player. This allows the two products to communicate using a high-speed internal protocol rather than translating to and from other protocols such as AES/EBU or S/PDIF.
